Ok. So one of the last things a tech wants to say is "you need a new compressor".
I have a compressor on a 4 drawer cooler r22 that will not pump down when i send it into a defrost. The high side will rise to about 350psi before the HPS opens all the while my low side pressure remains around 50psi. Tested the hot gas bypass and thats not the problem. Also just to ensure it wasnt my pumpdown solenoid i front seated the valve at the receiver. Same deal. Am i missing something or does it seem like the suction valve in the compressor is too weak to pull down any further than 50psi. What baffles me is while the unit is cooling the pressures are normal. 6 subcooling and 5 superheat. Any thoughts??

Disregard sc with receiver. Pull gas and weigh in could be overcharged.

I would think that with an over charge my subcooling would be high along with the pressures. ???

Coils are clean. Fans spinning in correct rotation. When the pump down solenoid de energizes and closes is when im having the problem.

The receiver is undersized. The unit probably has a leak. Somebody was probably just there and added gas. And they added too much gas and the receiver can't hold it all when the system tries to pump down. So the high pressure switch trips.

There's nothing wrong with the compressor.

    You're welcome.

I'm with Knave. First thought was over charged. I would pull 50% of the receiver capacity and recheck first.
