No such thing as a free lunch, it's the customer that pays in the end.

I have done these lunch and learn sessions, training engineers on product. the last one I did was for engineers who were specifying chillers for a new hospital chiller plant. the ownership group wanted magnetic bearing machines due to their success in southern California. we had done a bunch and understood the machines and application better than the rep. in the end, the engineers got free lunch, laid the job out and sold the machines. there were never any kickbacks. it does , however allow the supply chain to work, people to sell product, and engineers to sell design work. 30 years ago, maybe less in some cases, it was a different story.

The idiots the credit union hired had to be getting kick backs, everything they speced were the highest priced items they could get

In your case, its been a while and that might be possible. These days there is really a concerted effort by the G-men to look out for that kind of thing. Watch the news, dudes are getting busted in the larger cities quite frequently for those sins of the past. What we see today is a corporate environment where there are severe limitations on things. We are likely to see these lunch and learn situations, where sales reps literally do come in and help engineers learn about new equipment, sequences, etc. They put out a nice lunch spread and then talk while the engineers eat, with questions/answers at the end. usually no more than two hours. I have been to a bunch of these and taught a few. We then see equipment expose's where they bring in small version of equipment to a conference center, casino meeting room, or in some cases a distillery. They show off the equipment, do more training, and provide food and beer. I would be shocked to hear of kickbacks in todays' climate, but suppose its possible.

I live in a State that at one time, seemed like it was founded on Kickbacks. The former Mayor of the Capital City has been imprisoned on such .A local HVAC Contractor was told he'd have pay a little extra for some bid jobs and permits,so he went to the Feds, got wired up,bought the whole City Hall Scam Down! The same Mayor got jailed for hitting His wife's lover over the head with a fireplace log,did time, then got Re-elected when he got out! Those were the Days.:thumb:
